SALTWIRE started because a shed became available and nobody had anywhere else to be. Four people who had each quietly given up on being in a band walked into it in the winter of 2018 and did not really walk back out.

The first record came out of that shed more or less intact — written fast, recorded faster, and mixed by somebody who had never seen the band play.Ninety Miles of Fence was not supposed to travel further than the people who already came to the shows. It did, which surprised everybody involved and changed the shape of the next four years.

Low Tide Country took considerably longer. It was recorded over eleven days in a decommissioned surf club with the doors open, because the room sounded better that way and because it was February. You can hear the ocean on at least two songs. That was not a production decision so much as an unavoidable one.

The live show is the point, and always has been. We play loud in small rooms and slightly less loud in large ones, we start on time, and we would rather play to sixty people who chose to be there than six hundred who did not.
